What is a System Boiler?

A system boiler works alongside a hot water cylinder to store and supply heated water. Unlike traditional boilers, most of the essential components – such as pumps and valves – are built into the unit itself.

System boilers are:

• Designed for efficient heating and hot water performance
• More compact than conventional systems
• Ideal for homes without loft space (no cold water tank required)

They are also compatible with solar water heating systems, helping reduce your energy usage and environmental impact.

How Do System Boilers Work?

System boilers heat water directly from the mains supply and store it in a hot water cylinder for later use. Because of this, they can deliver hot water to multiple taps, showers, and baths at the same time without losing pressure.

This makes them a great choice for:

  • Larger households
    Homes with multiple bathrooms
  • Families with high hot water demand

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is our frequently asked questions, find answers below or get in touch.

System boilers are ideal for homes with high hot water demands and multiple bathrooms. If you need to run several taps at once without losing water pressure, a system boiler could be the best choice for you.

Yes, system boilers require more space than combi boilers, as they need a separate hot water cylinder to store heated water.

However, they don’t require a cold water tank in the loft like traditional (regular) boilers, making them a more compact option compared to older systems.

System boilers are ideal if you have:

  • Enough space for a hot water cylinder (such as an airing cupboard)
  • A larger home with higher hot water demand
  • Multiple bathrooms needing hot water at the same time

If space is limited, a combi boiler may be more suitable – but if your home can accommodate a cylinder, a system boiler offers excellent performance and reliability.
